Typing Practice

Typing practice is a great way to improve your typing and check in to see how fast you can type! In fact, typing tests are a great way to practice! The best part is that there is no limit on the number of times you can do a typing test. Therefore, you can do them regularly to increase your speed and improve your accuracy.

Also, typing is an important skill for anyone using a computer, especially for medical transcriptionists! Overall, the faster you can type, the more productive you will be.

However, if you’re not too sure what typing practice involves or how you can use an online typing test to improve your typing, we have explained this below!

What does typing practice involve?

Many of us don’t know how fast our typing speed is! Therefore, you may want to take a typing test to see how fast you can type, as this will help you get the most out of your typing practice!

When doing a typing test, you will have one minute to type out a set of words. After you complete the typing test, you will receive some statistics, which we have broken down:

What is a good typing test score for my typing practice?

To get the most out of your typing practice, its important to see where you are at! For example, this is an indication of where you might be sitting:

  •  35-40 WPM is how fast an average person can type.
  •  60-75 WPM puts you above average.
  •  90 WPM + you have a very fast typing speed, and may be a touch typist!

When it comes to working as a medical transcriptionist, accuracy is just as, if not, more important, than typing speed. Usually, the desired accuracy for medical transcriptionists is around 98%, and we provide you with a lot of practise transcriptions to complete in the course! Overall, this will help you improve and keep up your typing practice!

How can I improve my typing skills?

Typing is something where there are no shortcuts. However, if you do typing practice every day it will help you reach your goal. Typing games are another great way to practice!

Although, there is some muscle memory involved with finger placement when using the keyboard, especially if touch typing is your goal. Therefore, allocating 15-20 minutes of practise per day will help you improve, even if it’s just focusing on keyboard positioning. Also, ensure that you take it at a slow pace, as your speed will naturally improve the more you practise!
