Student Wellbeing Policy
How we support your wellbeing while you study.
Purpose
This policy describes how TalentMed supports student wellbeing. It applies to every enrolled student. It sets out what we do ourselves, what we signpost to external services, and how to reach help when you need it.
TalentMed is an online registered training organisation. We are not a counselling or mental-health service. Our role is to identify wellbeing needs relevant to your course, make you aware of the support available, and refer you to professional services when that is the right response.
How we identify wellbeing needs
We look at the content, demands, and cohort of each course and identify wellbeing considerations that are relevant. For TalentMed’s healthcare-focused qualifications that typically includes:
- The stress of balancing online study with work, family, or carer responsibilities
- Financial pressure, especially where a course is self-funded
- Exposure to clinical content that may be distressing (for example, case studies in clinical coding)
- The isolation that can come with fully online, self-paced study
- Cultural safety for First Nations students and students from diverse backgrounds
We also respond to individual wellbeing needs that you tell us about, or that become apparent through your engagement with the course.
What we offer
The support we provide directly is focused on your study:
- A responsive student support team. You can reach our team by email or phone during business hours for anything from technical issues to study concerns.
- Reasonable adjustments. Where your wellbeing affects how you learn or are assessed, we make adjustments where appropriate under our Reasonable Adjustment Policy.
- Study flexibility. Where personal circumstances affect your ability to meet deadlines, talk to us early. We can often extend a deadline or pause your enrolment.
- Clear information. Our course pages, Student Handbook, and policy library explain what to expect and where to find help.
For specialist mental-health, medical, financial, legal, or crisis support, we connect you with qualified external services rather than attempting to provide those services ourselves.
If you are struggling
Please talk to us early. It is easier to adjust your study when we know what is going on than to recover after a deadline is missed.
Start with an email to support@talentmed.edu.au or a call on 1300 737 781 during business hours. You do not need to share more than you are comfortable with. We will help you work out the next step, which might be an extension, a pause, a referral, or just a conversation.
You can also email wellbeing@talentmed.edu.au if you would prefer to reach the wellbeing inbox directly.

If your safety is at risk right now
Immediate help
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000) and ask for the service you need. For urgent mental health support that is not life-threatening, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 at any time.
Confidentiality
Information you share with us about your wellbeing is handled in line with our Privacy Policy. It is only shared internally with staff who need to know in order to support you.
The exception is where there is a serious and imminent threat to life or health, or where disclosure is required by law. In those rare situations we act to keep you or others safe, and tell you what we have done as soon as practicable.
Cultural safety
We are committed to creating a culturally safe learning environment for First Nations students and students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. If something about our course design, communications, or content feels unsafe or exclusionary, please tell us. Our Diversity and Inclusion Policy sets out our approach.
Reasonable adjustments and disability
If disability, chronic illness, or a mental health condition affects how you learn or are assessed, we make reasonable adjustments where appropriate. See our Reasonable Adjustment Policy for the process.
How we improve our wellbeing support
We review patterns in support requests and student feedback each year to check that the wellbeing services we provide and the external services we signpost still meet the needs of our cohort. When we identify gaps, we adjust the support we offer or the information we publish.
