Credit Transfer Policy

Get credit for units you have already completed elsewhere.

Purpose

Credit transfer is the recognition of units or qualifications you have already completed with another Registered Training Organisation, where the unit is equivalent to one in your TalentMed course.

This policy explains when credit transfer is available, what evidence we accept, and how to apply. It applies to every TalentMed course.

Our commitments

Credit transfer is a right under the national VET system. We must grant credit transfer where the evidence shows you have completed the equivalent unit. That decision is documented, fair, transparent, and consistent with how we treat every other student.

Credit transfer is different from recognition of prior learning. Credit transfer is for prior formal completion of equivalent units. If your experience was gained through work rather than formal training, the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy is the right pathway.

What we accept as evidence

To grant credit transfer, we need to confirm you have completed an equivalent unit. We accept:

  • A certified or original copy of an AQF qualification testamur (Certificate, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma)
  • A certified or original copy of a Statement of Attainment issued by another RTO
  • An authenticated VET transcript obtained through your USI account at usi.gov.au

An authenticated VET transcript is the easiest option. Log in with your USI, download the transcript, and send it to us. Because the transcript is verified against the national register, we do not need to contact the issuing RTO.

We do not accept:

  • Overseas qualifications (these should go through RPL, with appropriate evidence)
  • Non-AQF or non-accredited training certificates
  • Course outlines or attendance records alone

When credit transfer is available

Credit transfer is available for any unit in your TalentMed course, provided:

  • The unit you have completed is nationally recognised under the AQF
  • The unit is equivalent to a unit in your current course (same national code, or formally mapped as equivalent)
  • The evidence is authentic and verifiable

Where a unit has been superseded, we assess equivalence on a case-by-case basis using the official equivalence mapping published on the National Register.

Equivalence

Two units are equivalent where:

  • They have the same national code (for example, BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately), or
  • The training package notes on the National Register formally list one as equivalent to the other, or
  • Our academic assessor determines, based on the learning outcomes and assessment requirements, that the unit is equivalent

Where equivalence is partial rather than full, we may offer gap training under the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.

How to apply

  1. Request the credit transfer form. Email enrol@talentmed.edu.au or call 1300 737 781.
  2. Submit your application. Complete the form and attach your evidence (USI transcript, certified qualification, or Statement of Attainment) and the credit transfer fee.
  3. We verify the evidence. Document check and, for non-USI evidence, verification with the issuing RTO.
  4. Equivalence assessment. Where the unit has a different national code, an academic assessor reviews the mapping.
  5. Decision. You receive the outcome in writing, typically within 10 business days of a complete application.

If credit is granted, we adjust your course plan and your fees. If credit is not granted, we explain why and discuss alternatives.

Fees

Credit transfer assessment fee: $35 per unit (non-refundable).

The fee covers the administrative and academic time required to verify your evidence and assess equivalence. Where we grant credit transfer, the tuition fee for the credited unit is removed from your overall course fee. Full fee detail in the Fees and Charges Policy.

Credit transfer and VET Student Loans

If you are using a VET Student Loan for HLT57715 Diploma of Practice Management, credit transfer reduces the units you need to study and therefore reduces the tuition fees covered by your loan. We adjust the fee schedule and Statement of Covered Tuition Fees accordingly, and notify the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) as required.

Full detail in the VET Student Loans Policy and VSL Fee Management Policy.

If you disagree with the outcome

You can appeal a credit transfer decision through our complaints and appeals process. Appeals must be lodged within 20 business days of the decision.

Privacy

Credit transfer applications and supporting documents are kept with your student record and handled in line with our Privacy Policy.
