Transcription is a highly specialised field. It involves the conversion of an audio file into a written document. Transcriptionists work across many different industries, therefore, the type of skills and background required will vary between different companies.

The role of a transcriptionist is to:

  • Listen to the recorded dictation.

  • Transcribe and convert the dictation into the appropriate format.

  • Identify errors and missing information.

  • Submit the document for approval.

Hello, what is required to be an academic transcriptionist?
Also, how long does it take to become a medical transcriptionist if you’re studying part-time?
    Thank you.

      Hi Cath,
      Thank you for your comment.
To be working as a Medical Transcriptionist, most employers will require you to have a nationally recognised qualification, such as the Diploma of Healthcare Documentation, or at least three years of current Medical Transcription experience. Fortunately, we can help kick-start a career in medical transcription.
Our Diploma of Healthcare Documentation is delivered online, so you can progress through your studies at a time and place that best suits you. We recommend that you study approximately 15 -20 hours/week to complete the course within the 12-month intended time-frame.
If you would like further information, please contact our Career Advisers on 1300 737 781 or via ask@talentmed.edu.au. Thanks!

I am a Registered Nurse, 18years, on the cusp of retiring from the physical aspects required in the nursing industry due to an injury to my sciatica nerve. I am keen to pursue other less physical avenues and can be assisted financially from my service ptovider if need be,
